Oil on canvas painting of Edward VII as Prince of Wales by Franz Zavier Winterhalter. Painted for Queen Victoria the year before the Prince's trip to Canada. He is shown in the uniform of the Grenadier Guards.

General note

Edward (1841-1910) was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha. He married a Danish Princess, Alexandra, in 1863. The Prince succeeded his mother in 1901 and reigned until his death in 1910 as one of the most popular British Sovereigns.
