The fonds consists of correspondence, subject files relating to MacLachlan's role as secretary to Norman Rogers and as a member of the Queen's University Board of Trustees. Of particular note is a wooden bound volume titled "A Potpourri of Sidelights and Shadows from Turkey." This collection of sketches was printed for private circulation only. Rev. Alexander Grant MacLachlan Sr. (Queen's 1884) attended Union Theological Seminary, New York City,and was appointed a teaching missionary eventually becoming President of the International College at Smyrna. These memoirs show the outreach of American missionary activity and political and military developments in Asia Minor from his forty years in the educational missionary service in Turkey including during the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922).

The letterbooks and financial records offer a very full picture of the commercial activities of the McLaughlin carriage business, the forerunner of the McLaughlin automobile enterprises. Also included are a collection book and a general ledger.

The fonds consists of correspondence, letterbooks, ledgers, scrapbooks, legal documents and financial records relating to Kingston business and shipping. The letterbooks, 1887-1889, contain correspondence of the Montreal Transportation Company. There are letters to Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir Mackenzie Bowel. Topics include the Orange Order, Catholicism, employment of locals, prices for timber in the hinterlands and the building of ships in Kingston.

The fonds consists of correspondence largely pertaining to the Orange Order and the role of patronage in nineteenth century Canadian politics, bills and receipts, and miscellaneous material pertaining to the Orange Order and militia. Of particular note is correspondence relating to the expulsion of a Lodge member due to accusations of fraternization(1875), three letters (1877-1878) from and about a Canadian (Thomas Cooke) imprisoned in Michigan for rape of a native woman, and a document on the ranking of Militia Schools in Kingston from David Shaw. On the microfilm are scrapbooks containing clippings from 1895 - 1917, concerning the life and career of Bowell clipped from contemporary newspapers. One volume deals primarily with political cartoons during his prime ministership. The other volume contains biographical material.

Includes reports, meeting minutes, correspondence and publications used as background research into the reports. In addition, there is a comprehensive bibliography of Professor Boyd's publications from 1931-1972.
